The Brookings Initiative on International Volunteering and Service seeks to explore ways in which volunteerism can help enhance global understanding and security. The initiative was launched in June, 2006, and comprises a coalition of corporations, non-governmental organizations, universities and government agencies working in partnership to encourage more Americans to volunteer internationally. The goal is to double the number of American volunteers by the year 2010, thereby enhancing understanding between countries and cultures and deepen the perspective of the volunteers, who are frequently America's best diplomats abroad.
The initiative is led by David Caprara, Director and Nonresident Fellow at the Brookings Institution.
Dalit Solidarity is a signatory of the Global Pledge for International Volunteering and has committed to increase the number of international volunteers in its programs, and to improve the quality of its international service programs.
